Smoke and CO Alarms

Smoke and CO alarms are vitally important to warn you of smoke, fire, and carbon monoxide.  They save lives by giving early warning that there is a problem. In Washington State, they are both required on every floor of any home being sold.

  • There should be a smoke alarm on each floor

  • There should be a CO alarm on each floor and immediately outside any bedroom area

  • It is recommended and current code to have a smoke alarm in each bedroom and hallway outside bedrooms

  • Replace smoke alarms and CO alarms every 10 years 

  • Replace batteries yearly and test regularly
